Shillong, March 21: The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of Meghalaya, with the support of the Meghalaya Farmers’ (Empowerment) Commission, organised a Monthly Farmers’ Market on March 21, 2026, at the parking lot of the Directorate of Fisheries, opposite St. Edmund’s College in Shillong.
The initiative, aimed at celebrating farmers and their fresh produce, seeks to provide cultivators with a convenient platform to directly sell their products while offering consumers easy access to farm-fresh goods. Owing to its location amid several residential localities, the market is expected to witness a steady flow of visitors.
Farmers from different parts of the state—including West Khasi Hills (Nongstoin), East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, and East Khasi Hills—participated in the market, bringing along a diverse range of products for sale.
The market featured a wide variety of items, including fresh vegetables, fish, turmeric, eggs, locally brewed wine, and other agricultural produce, drawing buyers from across the city and nearby areas.
