HNYF giving 24 hours time to the state Government to suspend the personal interview in the 6th battalion

Shillong, August 07: Irked at the way the personal interview was conducted by the Police Department for filling up the vacant posts of constable for the 6th Battalion of the Meghalaya Police, the Hynñiewtrep National Youth Federation (HNYF) today has urged the department concerned to suspend the same until the procedure is clarified.

With the support of parents of the candidates from Jaiñtia Hills who have undergone the written test, the HNYF has given a 24-hour deadline and demanded a clarification forthwith.

Speaking to media persons at a press conference held at the Shillong Press Club this afternoon, HNYF Publicity  Secretary Donbor Dkhar said, “Along with the parents of those candidates who have passed the written test, we seek a clarification from the government and the Police Department on how the result was arrived at to select the candidates for the personal interview because the procedure is adversely affecting them (candidates) and we are giving 24 hours to do so as well as to suspend the personal interview.”

It may be noted that there are more than 1000 candidates who passed the written test which was held on June 15, 2013, including those for the Armed Branch, Unarmed Branch constables for the 6th Battalion of MLP, whereas according to the Police Department’s website only 400 plus candidates were selected for each branch, leaving the other candidates in the lurch.

M Dhar, father of one of the candidates who had made inquiries and learnt that only those with highest marks were selected, expressed his doubts on how this was arrived at.

“It should have been made known prior to publishing of the result that only those with highest marks will be selected for the personal interview, but instead it was done at the last moment,” Dhar said.

Another parent, Nishwa Dkhar said, “It is very sad to see that this is another example of corruption because those who are selected for the personal interviews have links with ministers and other high-ups in the Police Department.”

The HNYF Publicity  Secretary Donbor Dkhar also said that an appointment with Home Minister Roshan Warjri was denied but vowed to continue to fight for the right of the educated unemployed youth who have been left stranded by the government. (SP News)
