IndiGo commences operations between Delhi-Itanagar in the North Eastern State

National, Oct 02: IndiGo, India’s leading carrier, has commenced exclusive direct flights between Delhi and Itanagar, effective October 2, 2023. IndiGo now connects Itanagar, with three metropolitan hubs, including Mumbai, Kolkata, and now Delhi. This new direct connection marks a significant milestone in IndiGo’s efforts to catalyze substantial growth in the region.

In recent years, IndiGo has made concerted efforts to enhance accessibility in the Northeast India region, successfully connecting with seven out of the eight states in this diverse landscape. On November 28, 2022, IndiGo marked a significant milestone by launching operations at Donyi Polo Airport in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.

This strategic move introduced inaugural flights that connected Itanagar to prominent cities like Mumbai and Kolkata. With the introduction of this new Delhi-Itanagar flight, previously less accessible destinations like Tawang are poised to experience a surge in tourist arrivals via scheduled commercial flights, contributing to the economic growth of the city and the state.

Donyi Polo Airport, inaugurated nearly a year ago in Itanagar, stands just 15 kilometers from the state capital. This newfound accessibility to Itanagar, often referred to as the “land of dawn-lit mountains,” is set to bolster tourism, attracting visitors to explore key attractions in the region.

Travelers can embark on journeys to iconic sites such as Ita Fort, Jawaharlal Nehru Museum, Namdapha National Park, and the charming town of Tawang, nestled amid the scenic Gudpi and Chong-Chung Mi ranges. Adventurers can explore serene glacial lakes like Sangetser and Sela, seek serenity at the Taktsang Gompa, or ascend Gorichen Peak to behold breathtaking vistas of the town below.

Itanagar also boasts other notable tourist destinations, including the picturesque Gekar Sinyi (Ganga Lake), a vibrant craft center and emporium, a captivating Zoological Park, the scenic Indira Gandhi Park, the idyllic Polo Park, and an array of revered Buddhist temples.
