Jagriti Shiksha Niketan, Pandu- A Ray of hope for Underprivileged Students

Maligaon, Feb 21: Jagriti Shiksha Niketan, Pandu, established in 1975 in the railway settlement of Pandu, began as a small initiative and has grown into a vital centre for primary education for underprivileged children from the Pandu and Maligaon areas. Over its 50-year journey, the school has progressed steadily with the support of various organisations and well-wishers.

Currently, under the leadership of Smt. Shalini Shrivastava, President of Northeast Frontier Railway Women Welfare Organization (NFRWWO), the school provides education to over 160 students from Play Group to Class V, supported by dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff, with a focus on holistic development.

Jagriti Shiksha Niketan, Pandu celebrated its Annual Day at Rang Bhawan, Maligaon today. The event was graced by Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway and Smt. Shalini Shrivastava, President of NFRWWO.

Students presented colourful cultural performances, songs and skits, highlighting their talent and overall development. The programme concluded with warm interactions among guests, teachers and students, reaffirming the school’s commitment to empowering underprivileged children.

A significant milestone was achieved in 2006 with the redevelopment of the school building. This progress continued with the addition of new classrooms in 2014 and 2017. Most recently, in 2024, a renovated classroom and staff-room complex was constructed, further enhancing the school’s learning environment.

Beyond the support of the Railways, several institutions and individuals have contributed meaningfully to the school’s steady growth. Various wings of the Northeast Frontier Railway, along with partner organizations, extended valuable assistance.

Infrastructure support was provided by NFR and NFR (Construction), computer facilities were facilitated by the Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) and drinking water facilities were supported by the State Bank of India. Collectively, these contributions have played a vital role in the school’s ongoing development and improvement.

Jagriti Shiksha Niketan, Pandu has outlined plans for further development to enhance its facilities and learning environment. The proposed expansion includes additional rooms for a laboratory, activity room and study room.

Plans also include the creation of a new playground to strengthen physical education facilities, along with the construction of a new auditorium for daily activities. Additional toilet facilities are also proposed to ensure better hygiene and sanitation standards.
