JNC appreciate the police of EJH district who rescued  woman from Ahmedabad

Shillong, March 24: The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) expresses its sincere appreciation to the East Jaiñtia Hills District Police for their swift and effective action in tracing and rescuing a young woman from Wapung Chnong Village who had gone missing in Ahmedabad City, Gujarat, since March 15, 2026.

The case came to light after the JNC received a verbal complaint from the missing woman’s mother. Acting with urgency and concern, the JNC filed a First Information Report (FIR) on March 19 at the Ladrymbai Police Outpost.

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the local police team, under the guidance of the Superintendent of Police, East Jaiñtia Hills, the young woman was successfully located and is now safely on her way home.

The JNC extends heartfelt gratitude to the police authorities for their tireless work and expresses special thanks to Kong Santa Mary Shylla, MLA of 5-Sutnga Saipung Constituency, for her deep concern and assistance during the case.

However, the JNC asserts that this unfortunate incident is a direct result of the State Government’s continued neglect of youth employment issues in Jaiñtia Hills. Due to lack of job opportunities and employment policies within the state, many young people are compelled to leave home in search of work, often falling prey to unsafe or misleading job offers outside Meghalaya.

Shri Nangjan Dkhar, Vice President of JNC (CEC), stated,“The Government has consistently failed to address the need for sustainable employment opportunities for our youths. If proper job policies and reservation systems were in place, our young people would not have to migrate and face such risks. This case is a clear reminder that our government must take our youth seriously.”

He further urged all young people from East Jaiñtia Hills to exercise caution before accepting any job outside the state. “Verify job details carefully, avoid being misled by false promises, and always stay connected to your family,” he advised. Parents were also encouraged to remain vigilant and guide their children in making informed career decisions.

The JNC reiterated that under its “Save Jaiñtia Mission” launched in 2024, it had submitted five key demands to the Government, one of which is a calls to enact a “Policy ensuring job reservation in private and industrial sector for local youths”. The Council reaffirmed that if this demand had been honored, incidents like this could have been prevented.

“It is now high time for the Government to fulfill our demands and secure the future of our youths, so that such painful experiences do not occur again,” Shri Dkhar concluded.
