JSU appreciates authorities and organizers for relocating summer Jam Music Festival

Shillong, May 19: The Jaiñtia Students Union (JSU) Jowai Circle, sincerely thanks the event organizers and authorities for listening to our concerns and moving the Summer Jam music festival to a more suitable location. This decision ensures that patients at Civil Hospital Ialong can receive medical care without disturbance and that public safety is maintained.
Hospitals are Silent Zones under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, a law that helps protect people from excessive noise that could harm their health. According to this rule, no loud events or activities should take place within 100 meters of a hospital, school, or court. The original festival location near Civil Hospital Ialong violated this law, which raised serious concerns about patient well-being and emergency medical services.
Loud noise from music festivals can be stressful and harmful to people who are sick or recovering in the hospital. It can disturb their rest, increase anxiety, and make it harder for doctors and nurses to provide proper care.
Additionally, hosting a large event near the hospital could lead to traffic congestion, making it difficult for ambulances and emergency vehicles to reach the hospital on time. This could put lives at risk.
When JSU Jowai Circle raised these concerns, we learned that some officials were unaware of the event and had not given proper approval for it. Fortunately, after our appeal, the concerned departments acted quickly and ensured the festival was moved to a better location.
However, We  fully supports the Tourism Department’s efforts to promote local talent and tourism in Meghalaya. Their work is important for the growth of our community, and we appreciate their positive initiatives.
JSU Jowai Circle is not against music festivals, local artists, or entertainment events. We believe in supporting local talent and cultural activities, but we also believe that such events should be held in places where they do not disturb essential services like healthcare.
We sincerely thank the local administration and event organizers for listening to our concerns and taking immediate action to protect public health and safety. Their cooperation has helped create a better balance between entertainment and public welfare.
We encourage everyone to support the Summer Jam festival at its new location and continue celebrating the incredible talent of our local artists. JSU Jowai Circle remains committed to the well being of the community and will always advocate for responsible and thoughtful event planning.
