Shillong, July 05:The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) War Jaintia Circle after careful and proper considerations demands from the State Government to upgrade the branch office of the PWD Sub Division located at Amlarem to a Divisional Office (EE office).
The Amlarem Civil Sub-Division had came into existence since the 12th Nov 1976 and it also fuctions to look after the international border and also is home to the largest International Trade port in Meghalaya for trade with Bangladesh.
Therefore, the Amlarem Sub-Division deserves to have high functioning offices of the Government so as to make more convenient for the Government and the people of the division and help in their overall financial and economic growth as well as in ehancing development.
Whereas, the Divisional Office (office of the Executive Engineer) i.e. the PWD South Division is currently at Jowai which looks after the areas located in the Amlarem Civil Sub-Division and this creates hardships for the people in terms of communication impacting their time and increasing their travel cost.
Therefore the Union feels that the Government should seriously consider to upgrade the office of the S.D.O PWD currently located at Amlarem to the E.E. PWD office.
As a reminder, the Amlarem Civil Sub-division is one of the most neglected in which it had been several years that it still remains as it is. Whereas the Khliehriat Civil Sub -Division was upgraded to a District, Amlarem still remains the same.
Since now that the Government is contemplating to relocate the office of the PWD North Division from Jowai to Shangpung which is under Laskein Block with an idea to have Government offices nearby to the people, it feels right that the Government should also take similar steps for the Amlarem Civil Sub-Division as it is also very deserving for this upgradation.
The JSU urges the people of the Amlarem Civil Sub-Division and calls for the support of the NGOs, CSOs, the Village Heads (Waheh Shnong) and the general public to come together to demand from the government for this cause which shall be for the welfare of the people in the area said a statement by Eddy Kery Pohtam President of the JSU War Jaintia Circle.
