Shillong, May 28: Khasi Jaintia Welfare Association (KJWA) in collaboration with Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian (KJP) Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Mission Compound Shillong organized “A Marathon” on the 27th May 2017” to mark the “Quasquicentennial Celebration Of The School”. The theme for this 125th Years Celebration is “RUN FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE” and to highlight the importance of Educations and Sports in our life.
The run started from the school Compound at 6 am for a distance 6 kms and 10 kms for Junior and Senior categories for four different age categories of both boys and girls of age groups of 6 – 9, 10 – 13, 14 – 17 and 18 years old and above The main theme on conducting this Marathon is to bring forth forward youngsters, sports athletes, sports lovers. elderly people to spread the idea of how beneficial it is while taking up and pursuing Education in a proper ways coupling with sporting activities which will really help the youngsters and student communities to be more strong, sportive, supportive and sturdy so that we can have a healthy community in the long run that can contributing to be a more productive and active society.
Sports and Education are the agendas for employment generation, healthy, strong and productive society and brining people of all walks of life in one platform which will be highlighted in this Marathon in order to tap talents to come forward like Indian Record Holder Marathoner Bening Star Lyngkhoi since 33rd national Games 2007 in Guwahati.
The main highlight of the School is that one can admit that the real women empowerment in Education starts from this School in 1892 which is the first School for women in the whole of North East. Throughout the years, the KJP Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Mission Compound Shillong had produced many eminent personalities in the past and present now of the state and whole North east too whose lives have such a great impacts to the society in a great way.
It is also worth mentioning that Miss. Silverine Swer, Padmashree, Padmashree Mrs. E.N Shullai, Miss. Mavis Dunn Lyngdoh, the first Khasi woman Minister in the Assam Govt., Mrs. Bonily Khongmen, the first Khasi woman Member of Parliament, Mrs. R.M Bathew Former Chairperson of UPSC which is such a glaring example for our future generations.
The run was flagged off by the Shri G. Reenbohr, President of KJWA Shillong. Principal H M Marwein highlighted the importance of this run where Education and Sports are the main integral parts of our days today’s life in our life. Ex. Principal Mrs. M. B. Hooroo emphasized on the need to take up sports for a better future in life. At the vote of thanks given by Shri L P Warjri, Mr Warjri highlighting the importance contribution of the O/O Deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills Shillong, Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank LTD, Head Office Shillong, O/O The Registrar of Co-operative Society Meghalaya and other sponsors from different Schools in and around Shillong.
The Prize Ceremony was decorated mainly by state women sports personalities like Everester Miss Wansuk Myrthong who summitted Mt. Everest on 18th May 2013 at 8:30 am, Bansara Dhar of Archery and Balarina Syiem in Badminton who is also the Ex. Student of the School along with Former Principal of the School Ms. M. B. Hooroo and Shri Jeffrey Basan, Headman of Mission Compound.
