Lok Bhavan celebrates foundation day of Bihar, Rajasthan and Odisha in Shillong

Shillong, March 30: The Lok Bhavan on Monday celebrated the Foundation Day of Bihar, Rajasthan and Odisha with a special programme held at the Durbar Hall in Shillong.

The event witnessed the presence of government officials, college students, distinguished citizens and invited guests. Cultural performances, including traditional dances from the three states, were showcased as part of the celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Meghalaya Governor C. H. Vijayashankar extended his greetings to the people of the three states and highlighted their rich historical, cultural and religious heritage. He commended the participating artists for their dedication, noting that their performances reflected not only individual commitment but also the cultural identity of their respective states.

The Governor described the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the significant contributions of Bihar, Odisha and Rajasthan to the nation. He noted that Bihar has long been regarded as a centre of learning, citing institutions such as Nalanda University.

Odisha, he said, is known for its spiritual legacy and architectural landmarks like the Jagannath Temple and Konark Sun Temple, along with its vibrant festivals. Rajasthan, he added, stands out for its valour, grand forts and palaces, and rich cultural traditions.

Emphasising India’s diversity as its greatest strength, the Governor said that despite differences in language and culture, the country remains united. Referring to the vision of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, he called for fostering stronger bonds among states through mutual appreciation of traditions.

He expressed confidence that the three states will continue to contribute to the nation’s growth and extended his best wishes to their people on the occasion.
