Ampati, April 9, 2026: In a significant step towards strengthening rural infrastructure and improving connectivity, the Mangsanggre Bridge, constructed under a convergence of the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) and MGNREGA, was inaugurated today at Rongsang Abagre Adhoc School Playground in South West Garo Hills.
The bridge was inaugurated by Hon’ble MLA of 53 Ampati Legislative Assembly Constituency, Smt. Miani D. Shira, in the presence of South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Kum. Anendya Raajsshre, IAS and Assistant Commissioner & Block Development Officer, Betasing C&RD Block, Smt. Crystal R. N. Sangma.
The bridge is expected to serve as a vital lifeline for the residents of Mangsanggre and nearby villages by easing transportation challenges and improving access to essential services and economic opportunities.
Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble MLA Smt. Miani D. Shira stated that the bridge, being a massive undertaking, required substantial investment and was beyond the capacity of an MLA to sanction independently.
However, following appeals from community leaders and elders highlighting the urgent need for a bridge at Mangsanggre, she intervened and facilitated its construction. She further noted that the successful completion of the project under a convergence model sets a strong example for other villages, demonstrating the benefits of coordinated efforts among multiple government schemes and departments.
Earlier, in her address, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Kum. Anendya Raajsshre, IAS, praised the Hon’ble MLA’s leadership in identifying local needs and supporting both the Block Development Officer and villagers in ensuring the project’s success.
Emphasising the importance of community-government collaboration, villagers were encouraged to take up similar convergence projects with continued administrative support.
Notably, the project was completed one year ahead of schedule—an achievement that reflects strong community participation, effective coordination, and accountability. The Deputy Commissioner expressed hope that this model would inspire similar initiatives across the district.
The project underscores the government’s continued commitment to inclusive development through convergence initiatives aimed at strengthening rural connectivity and livelihoods.
