Shillong, Oct 22: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mr Conrad K Sangma and his brother Mr James K Sangma who is the home minister today met the union home minister Mr Amit Shah in the national capital and take up the issue on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
In the meeting with the union home minister the Chief Minister of Meghalaya said the issue of the CAB need proper consultation and the need to engage with the stakeholders on the issue.
The Union Home Minister has agreed to meet and discuss the matter to take the views of different stakeholders and asked Mr Conrad to do the coordination with the stakeholders.
The Chief Minister stressed on the fact that the views of stake holders must be taken, The Home Minister expressed his willingness to meet with stakeholders to discuss and solicit views on the contentious subject and also told the State Government to initiate steps to coordinate with the Centre in this regard.
The Chief Minister discussed matters related to the Amendment to the Sixth Schedule. The Home Minister has asked the State Government to put forth their various issues in writing, which the State has agreed to do so. Conrad also discussed the various concerns raised by the Committee for the Amendment to the Sixth Schedule.
As the National President of the NPP Conrad also discussed with Amit Shah, the political situation unfolding in Manipur and hoped for an early solution.
