Shillong, Feb 27: The Government of Meghalaya, in its notification issued, has made the following orders in respect of the Conduct of Elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council in the State of Meghalaya.
Rule 128 (1) (b) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951, as amended pertaining to the age of electors, the word ‘Twenty One’ shall be replace by ‘Eighteen’.
That Rule 133 (2) (a) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951, as amended pertaining to the period of filling nomination, the world ‘three weeks’ shall be replaced by ‘one week’.
That Rule 133 (3) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951 as amended pertaining to a proposer, the word ‘two persons’ shall be replaced by ‘one person’.
That Rule 137 (1) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951 as amended pertaining to the preparation of the List of Contesting Candidate in ‘alphabetical order’ shall be replaced by the instruction issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) prescribed under Section 38 of the Representation of People Act and Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968.
The sequence for preparing the list of contesting candidates will be as, (A) National and State Recognised Political Parties ,(B) Registered Political Parties and (c Independent Candidate.
