Meghalaya Governor emphasis on creativity, innovation and informed career

Shillong, Feb 26: The Governor of Meghalaya Graces “Abhilasha 2025–26” Programme in Shillong the Phase VI of “Abhilasha 2025–26”, a flagship career and design awareness initiative of the Department of Design, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, was successfully inaugurated today at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District.

The programme was graciously attended and inaugurated by the Governor of  Meghalaya,C. H. Vijayashankar, whose esteemed presence added significance to the occasion and served as a source of inspiration for the participating students.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor appreciated the initiative undertaken by IIT Guwahati and the District Administration in bringing academic and career awareness programmes to students at the district level.

He emphasized the importance of creativity, innovation, and informed career choices in shaping the future of young learners and encouraged students to explore opportunities available in premier institutions across the country.

“Abhilasha 2025–26” aims to introduce school students to the fundamentals of design thinking, creativity, and innovation while creating awareness about diverse career pathways including design education, law through National Law Universities, management studies through Indian Institutes of Management, and admission opportunities in Central Universities.

Faculty members, alumni, and research scholars from IIT Guwahati conducted interactive sessions focusing on creative problem-solving, career guidance, and emerging educational opportunities. The initiative has already benefited more than 5,000 students across several districts of  Assam and Meghalaya.

The Shillong edition marks an important milestone in extending IIT Guwahati’s outreach  beyond campus to promote inclusive access to quality career guidance and to encourage greater participation of students from the North Eastern Region in institutions of national importance.

The programme witnessed participation from students, teachers, officials of the District  Administration, and representatives from educational institutions, said  Smti. Rosetta M Kurbah, IAS  Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District,  Shillong.
