Meghalaya Labour Dept and EPFO hold awareness on PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana

Shillong, August 02: The Government of Meghalaya, Department of Labour, Employment and Skill Development, in association with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Regional Office Shillong, organised an awareness programme on the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) at the Main Conference Hall, Secretariat, Shillong.

The programme was chaired by the Shri C. Songate, IRS, Principal Secretary, Department of Labour, Employment and Skill Development. Shri K. Hungyo, Regional P.F. Commissioner, EPFO, Shillong, presented an overview of the scheme, followed by a detailed presentation by the EPFO team. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session on the scheme’s features and provisions under the EPF & MP Act, 1952.

Representatives from leading organisations such as NEEPCO, MCAB, Ranger Security, Polo Tower Group, Nazareth Hospital, and Mebaai Security and Service participated, alongside officers from state departments including the Directorate of Labour, Employment and Craftsmen Training, and ESIC. The Principal Secretary also had a meeting at PIB Shillong today with officials from the department to further disseminate information on the scheme.

The Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet and effective from August 1, 2025, has been rebranded as PM-VBRY to align with the Viksit Bharat vision.

The scheme aims to encourage job creation and sustainable employment growth across sectors, with a strong focus on manufacturing. The scheme consists of two components.

Part A – Incentive to First-Time Employees offers one month’s EPF wage (up to ₹15,000) in two instalments to first-time EPFO-registered employees earning up to ₹1 lakh per annum, with part of the benefit placed in a savings instrument for later withdrawal.

Part B – Support to Employers provides EPFO-registered employers with up to ₹3,000 per month per additional employee (earning up to ₹1 lakh) for two years, extended to three and four years for manufacturing units. To qualify, establishments must hire at least two additional employees (for those with fewer than 50 workers) or five (for those with 50 or more) on a sustained basis for at least six months.
