Shillong, July 17: Meghalaya today paid rich tribute to the legendary freedom fighter U Tirot Singh Syiem on his 178th death anniversary. With the Hima Nongkhlaw holding its official function at Madan Tirat at Mariang.
The NGO’s of the Khasi Hills held the public meeting at Nongkhlaw the birth place of Tirot Sing Syiemlieh the mighty Khasi king who fought the British Empire in 1829 thirty years before the National freedom movement in 1857.
The brave Khasi King who fought the mighty gun of the British empire four four years which the British managed to capture him in January 13, 1833 and imprison him at Dhaka Jail till he breath his last in 17 july 1835.
The day was marked as a solemn occasion in different part of the state where wreath were laid where ever memorial is erected in the name of this great legendary who has the courage to rebel against British might.U Tirot Sing Syiemlieh is the ruller of Hima Nongkhlaw (Nongkhlaw Kingdom)
