MePDCL announced OTS Scheme 2025” aims to provide relief to electricity consumers

Shillong, March 04: The One Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme 2025 announced by the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) aims to provide relief to electricity consumers by allowing them to settle their outstanding electricity dues with certain benefits. The key aims of the scheme are:

  1. Debt Recovery: Help DISCOMs recover long-pending electricity bill payments from

consumers.

  1. Financial Relief to Consumers: Allow consumers to clear their outstanding bills by

offering waivers on Delay Payment Charges.

  1. Reduce Litigation: Resolve pending disputes between DISCOMs and consumers without legal proceedings.
  2. Improve Cash Flow for DISCOMs: Ensure better financial health of DISCOMs to

enhance electricity supply services.

  1. Encourage Defaulters to Pay: Provide an incentive to defaulters to settle their bills by waiver on delayed payment charges.

In this context, Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) announced the “One Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme 2025” with the aim to facilitate the quick recovery of outstanding electricity dues.

Salient Features:

  1. Eligibility: All defaultingdisconnected consumers of category DLT/Kutir Jyoti/BPL having declared load of 5 KW and below.
  2. Waiver of DPC: Relief to defaulters by offering a 100% Delay Payment Surcharge (DPC) waiver calculated up to the latest bill as on the date of availing of OTS Scheme 2025
  3. The One Time Settlement (OTS) Scheme, 2025 will be effective from 1stMarch to 31stMarch 2025.
  4. To avail of the benefit of the OTS Scheme 2025, the consumers can submit an application to the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the concerned Distribution Sub-Division.
  5. The consumer can opt to pay for either of the two options:
  1. Onetime Payment or
  2. Up to 6(six) equal instalments which are interest free.

However, the first instalment would be 40% of the balance amount, the remaining 60% of the

balance would be divided into 5 (five) equal instalments.

  1. In the event of default of instalment payment, the entire DPC will be reactivated along with the balance instalment and added to the current bill.

This OTS Scheme 2025 is, however, not applicable for the following consumers:

  1. Any surcharge/penalty accumulated against bills raised for any theft, meter tampering or any other malpractices.
  2. For the Consumers who are presently paying their dues as per some settlementScheme/agreement with the Corporation
  • Issues which are in the court of law, Regulatory Commission or any such Authority.
