MHRC issue order to pay compensation in Rimpu Bagan cases 2022 in Tura

Shillong, Jan 31: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) registered 30 (Thirty) Cases relating to complaints of Human Rights violation during the operation and detention of persons by Pdlice from Rimpu Bagan, Tura, West Garo Hills District on 22nd July 2022.

Out of the thirty cases registered fifteen cases were withdrawn by the complainants. The enquiry was conducted by the Commission for the remaining fifteen cases and after hearing the evidences from both the parties.

The Commission has passed the Final Order on 29th January 2026 addressed to the Principal Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya Home (Police) Department with a recommendation for payment of compensation of  fifty thousand  each to the complainants for violation of Human Rights.

This recommendation is as per Section 18 (e) of the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993, the order was sign by the Secretary Meghalaya Human Right Commission Shri. LehMerák, MCS.
