Maligaon, Feb 27: Demonstrating firm resolve to safeguard railway infrastructure and ensure safe train operations, Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in close coordination with the Engineering Department, carried out extensive anti-encroachment drives at multiple locations under its jurisdiction during a two-day campaign held in February 2026. The initiative forms part of NFR’s sustained efforts to protect railway land, enhance operational efficiency and reinforce infrastructure security.
The drives in West Bengal covered the section between Nagrakata railway station and Chalsa railway station in Jalpaiguri district, as well as the yard area of Dalgaon railway station in Alipurduar district. Similar eviction operations were carried out in Assam near Mariani railway station in Jorhat district and along the railway stretch between Guwahahati railway station and Kamakhya railway station in Kamrup (Metro) district.
In total, 37 unauthorized structures were dismantled during the drives, along with six cement pillars removed from railway land. One of the major highlights of the campaign was the large-scale eviction drive carried out between Guwahati railway station and Kamakhya railway station, where 35 unauthorized structures were dismantled.
This significant clearance marks one of the most extensive anti-encroachment actions in the section and is expected to considerably improve track visibility, strengthen safety standards and prevent future encroachments along this vital railway corridor.
Northeast Frontier Railway continues to remain steadfast in protecting railway property and maintaining a safe, secure and obstruction-free environment for passengers and train operations. The coordinated efforts of RPF and the Engineering Department also contribute to curbing anti-social activities along railway tracks. NFR urges the public to refrain from unauthorized occupation of railway land and to extend full cooperation in maintaining railway safety and security.
