Maligaon, June 24: In order to improve transportation of freight traffic during the lockdown period NFR has opened new stations for handling inward and outward goods traffic.
During the month of May, Hojai, Ambasa and Kamalajari railway stations under Lumding division of NFR have been opened for freight booking.
The step has proved to be beneficial for booking of both inward and outward goods from these stations including handling of COVID-19 parcel trains.
So transportation of essential commodities to and from nearby areas of these stations have now become easier during the pandemic situation. Local traders will now be able bring and book items through these station by availing the new provided facility.
It can be mentioned here that despite having poor industrial growth in the region, NFR was successful to transport 1816 tonnes of materials through COVID parcel trains originating from Tinsukia, Dimapur, Guwahati/New Guwahati and Alipurduar.
More than 700 inbound freight trains were handled by NFR during the lock-down period. Handling of these freight trains had ensured availability of essential commodities and food items not only for inhabitants of the region but also in strategic locations.
Northeast Frontier Railway achieved to deliver such huge quantity of essential commodity with mandatory skeleton staff and observing various COVID-19 protocols. NFR achieved all these due to 24 x 7 working mode of its officials during the nationwide lock-down period.
