Shillong, Nov 23: The National Newborn Care Week 2024 (15th –21st November) was celebrated at NEIGRIHMS with the Department of Pediatrics organizing Poster Presentation and a Health Talk on 21st November 2024.
MBBS students from the 2020 and 2021 batches enthusiastically participated in the event centered on the theme, “Safety, Quality, and Nurturing Care – Birth Right of Every Newborn”. The event was aimed to educate and empower caregivers with essential knowledge about neonatal health.
The activity was held in the Postnatal Ward, Pediatrics OPD, and Obstetrics and Gynecology OPD, where students presented informative posters on topics like Kangaroo Mother Care, Preventing Hypothermia in Newborns, Feeding of Low-Birth-Weight Babies, and Newborn Screening. This was accompanied by interactive health talks aimed at educating mothers and caregivers about essential practices for ensuring newborn health and survival.
The sessions were very well-received, with attendees engaging actively and expressing gratitude for the valuable insights. The event successfully underscored the critical need for quality care in the neonatal period, reaffirming the collective responsibility of healthcare providers, caregivers, and the community to ensure the safety and health of every newborn.
