NIFT, Shillong to host a three-day event aimed at revitalising craft of Meghalaya

Shillong, March 06: The National Institute of Fashion Technology, Shillong, will host a three-day series of events from 11th to 13th March 2026 aimed at revitalising and strengthening thecraft ecosystem of Meghalaya and the wider Northeast region.

The initiative will begin with a two-day Artisan Awareness Workshop on 11th and 12th March 2026 at the NIFT Shillong Campus, Umsawli, Mawpat, designed to empower artisans through sessions on design intervention, branding, value addition, and entrepreneurial development to enhance their market readiness and long-term sustainability.

Alongside the workshop, a Craft Demonstration Programme will showcase live presentations by master artisans, highlighting traditional weaving, bamboo and cane craftsmanship, and other indigenous practices, offering students and visitors an immersive cultural and experiential learning opportunity.

The celebrations will culminate in Craft Bazaar 2026, to be held on 12th and 13th March 2026 at the prestigious U Soso Tham Auditorium, where artisans from across Meghalaya and the Northeast will receive a prominent public platform to directly showcase and market their handloom and handicraft products.

Through this comprehensive initiative, NIFT Shillong reaffirms its commitment to promoting sustainable livelihoods, preserving traditional knowledge systems, and positioning itself as a key catalyst for craft innovation, cultural preservation, and design-led development in the region.
