Shillong, June 03: The North Garo Hills District in view of the ongoing adverse weather conditions put up emergency helpline and emergency response team for any natural calamities that might take place. The District Administration advises the people of the district to exercise caution.
Public were advice to plan travel schedules carefully, keeping in mind the latest weather warnings, advisories , and updates issued by the Meghalaya Tourism Department and the Meteorological Department.
Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly or remote areas prone to landslides and flash floods. Stay indoors during thunderstorm and lightning. Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using mobile phones during lightning strikes.
Restrict all outdoor recreational activities during inclement weather, especially in tourist hotspots and open areas. Ensure safe driving and riding practices due to reduced visibility, slippery roads, and potential traffic diversions.
Signage and traffic management may need reinforcement in vulnerable zones. Strictly prohibit venturing into water bodies or waterlogged areas, including rivers, streams, or submerged paths.
Instruct parents and guardians to closely monitor children and restrict their outdoor activities especially near water bodies, agricultural fields, forested regions, landslide-prone zones.
Increase awareness about landslide risks-residents should be alerted to avoid areas, showing signs of soil movement, falling stones, or minor landslips. Evacuation may be considered for high-risk zones.
Remain vigilant around trees, electric poles, and other tall structures, particularly during heavy rainfall or lightning activity. Key measures taken by District Administration has activated of emergency helpline and emergency response Team, Helpline Centre District Control Room,

District Administration has put up temporary Shelters in North Garo Hills District have identified relief camps at the Blocks . Bajengdoba 23, Resubelpara 185 and Kharkutta 6.
