Shillong, Dec 24: The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) of the National People’s Party (NPP) strongly condemns the actions of certain members of the Bajrang Dal in Delhi who harassed women wearing Santa hats, falsely accused them of religious conversion, and forced them to leave public spaces.
This incident goes far beyond moral policing; it is a clear case of religious persecution, intimidation, and mob vigilantism. Targeting women for wearing festive attire associated with Christmas reflects a disturbing attempt to criminalise cultural and religious expression in a secular democracy.
At a time when the entire Christian community across India is joyfully awaiting and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ – the most significant event in Christian belief – such acts of harassment are deeply insensitive and divisive. No individual or organisation has the authority to interrogate citizens about their faith, clothing, or beliefs.
Such actions violate fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution and threaten India’s pluralistic fabric. The National People’s Youth Front of NPP demands immediate legal action against those responsible and urges law enforcement agencies to act firmly to prevent the normalisation of religious harassment in public spaces.
India is governed by the Constitution, not by mobs. The National People’s Youth Front(NPFY) will not remain silent in the face of intolerance, religious hatred, and attacks on women’s dignity said Mr. Nickey Nongkhlaw National President, NPYF.
