Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurates six amrit stations in Assam

Maligaon, March 14:The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today dedicated, inaugurated various infrastructure development projects and flagged off new train service in West Bengal, further strengthening connectivity and railway development scenario in the state.

As part of the railway initiatives, six redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme i.e Kamakhyaguri, Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum, Anara and Siuri Amrit stations were inaugurated along with dedication of two key infrastructure projects to the nation, marking a significant step towards enhancing passenger amenities and modernizing station infrastructure.

A new train service between Purulia – Anand Vihar Terminal (Delhi) was also flagged off by the Hon’ble Prime Minister further improving the connectivity in the region. These projects and services reflect the continued focus on expanding capacity, improving travel experience through modern rail infrastructure.

The Prime Minister stated that a vigorous campaign is underway across the country to modernize the Indian Railways. He also pointed out that the Central Government is rapidly expanding the railway infrastructure in West Bengal. He emphasized that these projects will give new momentum, boosting trade and industry and making life easier for lakhs of people by providing them new opportunities.

Among the newly redeveloped stations that have been inaugurated, Kamakhyaguri Railway Station, has been provided with upgraded facilities and modern passenger friendly infrastructure.

The redevelopment includes a new station building with an improved entrance lobby and circulating area, renovation of platforms with Kota-stone surfacing and construction of a 12-metre wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) equipped with lift facilities to enhance passenger convenience and accessibility. Passenger amenities such as waiting halls, toilet blocks, parking facilities and modern signage systems have also been upgraded.

In addition, multi-theme lighting and beautification works incorporating local art and cultural elements have been carried out to enhance the overall aesthetics of the station and its surroundings, thereby improving the passenger experience.

The redevelopment of Kamakhyaguri station reflects Indian Railways’ continued commitment to modernising railway infrastructure and providing enhanced travel facilities to passengers.

Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a total of 92 railway stations across Northeast Frontier Railway are being redeveloped in phases, including 25 stations in West Bengal, which will significantly improve passenger amenities and contribute to better connectivity and regional development.
