Ampati, March 20: An awareness and training programme on the effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, was held on Friday at the DRDA Conference Hall, DC Office, Ampati, for government officials and members of the public in South West Garo Hills district.
Organized by the Meghalaya State Information Commission, the programme aimed to enhance understanding of the RTI Act, its provisions, and the roles and responsibilities of various authorities involved in its implementation. Key topics included the duties of Public Information Officers (PIOs), Assistant Public Information Officers (APIOs), and First Appellate Authorities (FAAs).
Speaking on the occasion, Shri M.K. Wankhar, MCS, Assistant Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, highlighted the responsibilities of PIOs and APIOs, as well as the importance of adhering to the RTI framework to ensure timely and transparent information delivery.
Shri S.R. Marak, MCS, Additional District Education Officer, elaborated on the functions and obligations of First Appellate Authorities, emphasizing their role in ensuring accountability in the information dissemination process.
Shri E.A. Marak, District Informatics Officer (DIO), NIC, South West Garo Hills, conducted a session on RTI online services, underlining the significance of digital platforms in promoting accessibility and transparency in governance.
The programme was attended by Heads of Departments, government officials, and members of the public. It aimed to strengthen transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery through proper implementation of the RTI Act, 2005.
