Ampati, Feb 10: Safer Internet Day 2026 was observed on Tuesday the 10th of February 2026 at the DRDA Conference Hall, Ampati, with the objective of creating awareness about safe, secure, and responsible use of the internet and emerging digital technologies, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The programme participated by district officers, teachers, students and stakeholders was organized under the theme “Smart Tech, Safe Choices: Exploring the Safe and Responsible Use of AI”, highlighting the growing importance of digital safety in an increasingly connected world.
The event was chaired by Shri Raymond Z D. Shira, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director, DRDA & SRES, South West Garo Hills, who emphasized the need for responsible online behavior, cyber awareness, and the role of government institutions in promoting digital literacy and cybersecurity among citizens.
Smt. Anendya Raajsshree, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, delivered the opening remarks. She underscored the significance of Safer Internet Day in educating users, especially students and young professionals about online risks, ethical use of technology, and the importance of safeguarding personal data in the digital age.
A detailed presentation on Safer Internet Day 2026 was delivered by Shri Elliber A. Marak, DIO, NIC District Unit, South West Garo Hills. The presentation covered key aspects of internet safety, cyber threats, best practices for online protection, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in daily life and governance.
Smt. C R N Sangma, MCS, Assistant Commissioner and BDO, Betasing C&RD Block, South West Garo Hills, thanked the participants and resource person for making the event successful and productive.
The programme concluded with a collective call for greater awareness, informed digital choices, and collaborative efforts to build a safer and more inclusive digital environment.The observance reinforced the district administration’s commitment to promoting digital safety, cyber hygiene, and responsible technology adoption among the public.
