Shillong, April 06: Shillong created sporting history today as the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus hosted the first-ever Classroom Edition Skate+BMX Jam, inaugurated by Shri Shakliar Warjri, Hon’ble Sports Minister, Government of Meghalaya. The event is organised by MINUSONE in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, and NEHU.
The Hon’ble Sports Minister, in his inaugural address, shared words of encouragement, stating that the government’s ultimate goal is to provide a platform for youth development. He emphasized the government’s commitment to investing in young people and providing them with the best possible resources.
Warjriexpressed his belief that investing in sports can achieve a great deal in terms of character building and shaping the sports ecosystem in the state. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to excellence, ensuring that they would give their best efforts to support the youth.
The ground-breaking jam attracted over 70 participants from across India, including 45 riders from various Indian states and 25 local athletes representing Meghalaya.
As the day rolled by, professional riders and enthusiastic amateurs alike took to the ramps, demonstrating gravity-defying tricks and technical prowess in a series of intense competition sessions.
This first-of-its-kind event successfully brought together Shillong’s diverse youth subcultures, celebrating both athletic excellence and creative expression against a soundtrack of live music that echoed across the campus.
