Shillong, March 18: Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday cleared the name of Shibun Lyngdoh as its candidate from Shillong Parliamentary seat. Although the regional parties were seeking support of BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the party has named its candidate after the process for the filing of nomination began in Meghalaya.
The Shillong Parliamentary seat is expected to witness a multi corner contest from various candidates with most of the political parties decided to contest in the Lok Sabha election.
However, the new entry is ofcourse the Aam Admi Party which is trying to establish its grip over Meghalaya.
Supported by regional parties United Democratic Party has fielded Paul Lyngdoh as its candidate, while, the Congress has fielded sitting MP Vincent H Pala while the Common People’s Front (CPF) who is supported by the Hill State People’s Democratic Party and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movment has supported PBM Basaiawmoit.
The Aam Admi Party (AAP) has also fielded a retired Indian Forest Service Amerington Kharshiing from Shillong parliamentary constituency. Meghalaya will go for polls on April 9. The last date for filing of nomination is on March 22 with the last date of withdrawal being March 26.(SP News)
