The BSF troops seized 20 cattle cramped from one truce that fled near Umkiang

Shillong, July 15: The Border Security Force despite the spread of COVID-19  and adverse weather conditions, is maintaining high degree of vigil on the International Border to assure national security as well as to prevent all kind of illegal activities.

On 14th July 2020, the BSF troops deployed at mobile check post Sonapur, East jaintia Hills, Meghalaya observed a suspicious truck loaded with cattle. BSF troops tried to stop the truck but truck driver did not pay any heed and crossed the Check post in heavy acceleration. BSF troops pursued the truck and seized 20 cattle cramped in it, near Umkiang.

All the cattle were tethered tightly with the rope presenting cruelty and pathetic condition of the cattle. Cattle were likely to be smuggled to BD. Seized cattle and truck handed over to Meghalaya Police for further disposal.

The Sonapur mobile check post falls under AOR of 97 Bn BSF. There are chance of spurt in cattle smuggling in view of incoming imminent festival of Bakr Id/Eid ul-Adha which is going to be observed in the last week of this month. The festival is celebrated zealously in Bangladesh of which cattle sacrifice is an indispensable part.

In another instance,  BSF troops of 43 Bn BSF deployed on international border of South Garo Hills , Meghalaya,  seized miscellaneous items including Biri, Shampoo, Cream, Soap and  Oil etc. worth rupees more than ninety thousand, which later on handed over to  Customs department under Meghalaya govt  for further disposal.

Mr U K Nayal, DIG (PRO) said that, “BSF is making its best efforts to curb smuggling activities on International Border and these efforts will continue.’’
