Shillong, May 08: The 25″ Meeting of the Rajya Sainik Board of the State was held on 08 May 2025, the meeting was chaired by Shri Rakkam A Sangma, GAD Minister, the Minister congratulated the Directorate Sainik Welfare for its work towards Ex- Servicemen and widows’ welfare.
He stated that the Govt is keen to promote ESM welfare and use this valuable asset profitably for the State. The meeting was attended by Shri CVD Diengdoh, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary GAD, Air Vice Marshal SK Mathur, SOA Eastern Air Command, Brig Pawan Bhardwaj, YSM, Brig Adm and Col KV Nair, Col Veterans, HQ 101 Area, Director (Policy), Kendriya Sainik Board New Delhi.
Directorate Resettlement Zone East, Kolkata and several other senior civil and Military Officers. The Secretary of the Board Colonel Daryl Hopkins (Retd) stated that several important decisions were taken by Govt regarding various issues.
Some of the of these are, the construction of Sainik Rest House cum Office Complex in Shillong is near completion, aAppointment of Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Tura is under process by the State Government.
Establishment of Sainik Rest House, Tura and allied facilities as part of Integrated complex with Polyclinic with CSD outlet facilities at Tura is under active consideration by the State Government for the welfare of the veterans of Garo Hills.
The Secretary also informed that posts of Welfare Organisers at Jowai and Baghmara have been sanctioned by the State Govt and under process of recruitment of ESM in order to address and resolve the issues pertaining to the veterans residing these in these areas.
One time grant for Gallantry and Distinguished Service Awards has been increased which is at par with other NE States. Ex-Gratia grant to the NoK of Armed Forces personnel enhanced from existing amount of Rs 15,00,000/- to Rs 20,00,000/-.
Induction of skilled technical Ex-servicemen manpower in the State Government jobs was also discussed during the meeting. The Education Deptt is actively pursuing the case for establishment of Sainik School in Meghalaya under partnership mode with NGOs, Trusts,Private or State Govrtnment schools.
Schools may apply under the scheme whenever the web portal is reopened for inviting fresh applications.The Minster concluded the meeting with a message that the State Government was deeply committed to the welfare of the Ex-servicemen, widows and dependents of Meghalaya completion and being executed by the PWD Depertment.
