JSU demand that Bataw area be connected with Shillong-Silchar HSPC Road

Shillong, Feb 18: The JSU-Southern Border Zone East-Jaintia Hills met with the DC of East Jaintia Hills District today demand connectivity with the Shillong-Silchar High-speed corridor Road in bataw area which included several villages.

They are Umsatai, Pynurkba, Bataw, Umlangsha, Lakadong, Lama, borghat, kwator, Hingaria, JSU and several community leaders in Bataw area have voiced strong discontent regarding our exclusion the connectivity of the upcoming RS.22,864-crore Shillong-Silchar High-speed corridor road.

Despite initial surveys indicating that the project, intended to upgrade regional connectivity, would pass through the area, the villages was notably absent from the connectivity point, official project communications and consultation, creating fear of regional economic isolation.

The JSU demands immediate intervention from the DC office to review the current allignment and include the connectivity in this strategic infrastructure project. Key Concerns, vital lifeline Requirement.

The bataw area,Umsatai, Pynurkba, Bataw, Umlangsha, Lakadong, Borghat, Kwator, Hingaria retelies heavily on this routes for trade, livelihoods and access to healthcare, making direct access to the new corridor a necessity for survival.

Existing roads in the already notoriously bad, particularly during monsoon, worsening the connectivity gap. The JSU calling for a transparent review of the NHAI project to ensure the Bataw area is not left behind in the government’s push for improvement prospects.

The 166.80 KM, four lane Greenfield High-Speed Corridor is intended to connect Mawlyngkhung in Meghalaya to Panchgram in Assam, enhancing economic in the Northeast region.The DC of East Jaintia Hills has assured to the JSU to take swift action regarding the mentioned issue.
