Shillong, March 31: Upon the announcement by the Election Commission of India for the conduct of the adjourned poll to the 23-Sohiong (ST) Assembly Constituency to be held in State of Meghalaya on 10th May, 2023, the Model Code of Conduct and other instructions of the Election Commission have become operative in the East Khasi Hills District.
Therefore, the District Magistrate & District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District has under Section 144 CrPC prohibited any sort of agitational programme in any form, by any individual or organization in the East Khasi Hills District.
The order is issued in view of the information received that agitation programmes like hunger strike, procession, rally etc, is being organised by some organisation (s) in the District and that such agitation programmes if held.
Is likely to create Law and Order problem, breach of peace and tranquility resulting to loss of life and property, affecting the smooth conduct of the adjourned poll to the 23-Sohiong (ST) Assembly Constituency, if not prohibited immediately.The order shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force until further orders.
