There is no contractors qualified to construct Dawki Bridge

 

Shillong, Nov 15:  The Chief Engineer of the public work department (PWD) said that there is no contractors qualified for the construction of the arch steel bridge over the river Umngot at Dawki connecting Jaintia Hills and KhasiHills.

Speaking to SP News Agency the Chief Engineer said that since there is no qualified contractor to do the work the ministry road surface transport of the government of India has taken the responsibility to again call for the tenders.

The estimate for the project was revised to Rs 23 Cores. In order to attract the bidders the MRS transport has decided to allow the bidders to give the design and the cost estimate of the project.

The Dawki bridge is hanging in the air for decade where various government has treid their best to implement the project but could not due to many reason. The bridge is very important that connect the Jaintia Hills and the Khasi Hills the present bridge is constructed during the British regime.(SP News)
