Guwahati, Sept 26:Two senior doctors of Apeejay tea – Dr. Venoy Phukan and Dr. Showrav Kumar Phukon were awarded by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on 24th September at the launch of Free Drugs Scheme held in Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati. The doctors along with ten others from across Assam were felicitated for their long service in tea gardens and came back to share their joy with their teams.
Sharing his happiness on receiving the award, Dr. Venoy Phukan, Senior Medical Officer, Longsowal Central Hospital, Tinsukia district said, “I am proud not only for myself but for the company too for receiving this award from the Government. I started my career at Pengaree TE of Apeejay Tea and have been serving at Longsowal Central Hospital since 1974. I am also proud of the relationship I share with the workers who have complete trust in me and want me to continue serving them.”
Dr. Venoy Phukan who hails from Makum, passed out from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh in 1971. He joined Pengaree TE of Apeejay Tea in 1973 and has been living in the tea estate with his family.
Another doctor from Apeejay Tea awarded at the program, Dr. Showrov Kumar Phukon, Assistant Principal Medical Officer, Dhulapadung Tea Estate Hospital, Sonitpur district, said “I am happy and proud at receiving recognition for my work. In 30 years, this is the first time I have received such an award.
He said he started my career at Muttrapore TE of Apeejay Tea and have been working at Dhulapadung Tea Estate Hospital for 15 years now. We organise various health camps from time to time for the workers and we also conduct various activities under Mothers’ Club and Adolescents club in the estates.
The long service recognition was appreciated by everyone in Apeejay gardens and both long serving doctors of the company emphasised on serving with sincerity, skill and dedication.
