ASAK rebel killed in a joint army – police operation in North Garo Hills

 

Tura, Aug 22: In a joint army – police operation in Meghalaya’s North
Garo Hills, two ASAK rebels were killed today at Soba Jambal village,
along Assam – Meghalaya border.
The encounter took place at around 3:30 am.
The operation was led by police and Army from the Dogra regiment based
in Damra, Goalpara district of Assam.
“Based on source inputs we launched the operation and managed to gun
down two militants”, said Jerry Marak, superintendent of police, North
Garo Hills.
Police said that there were seven militants, who were talking shelter
in the village. “Those carrying AKs managed to escape”, Marak added.
Police recovered two 7.65 pistols, three 36 grenades, 12 empty cases
of AK, five empty 9 mm cases, six empty 7.65 cases, 16 metres of
cortex wires, one extra magazine of a pistol, three SIM cards and a
mobile phone.
At Rongjeng in East Garo Hills, police and CoBRA commandos busted a
makeshift camp of GNLA. “A group of rebel, who were talking shelter at
the camp managed to flee, when they saw the security forces”, said
Davies Marak, superintendent of police, East Garo Hills.(SP News)
