Shillong, Aug 20: The Health Awareness Programme for the Officers, SOs, troops & their families, regarding HLA Profiling & Stem Cell Voluntary donation was conducted at BSF HQ Umpling and Mawpat, Shillong, on 20th Aug 2014 by DATRI, an NGO. During this awareness camp, 88 BSF personnel and families registered themselves as voluntary donors.
HLA profiling was done by taking buccal swab of the individual, putting it for laboratory test and making a data of the population. Based on the matching of HLA profile with a needy patients, especially those suffering from blood related life threatening disease, like blood cancer, leucamia, lymphoma, thelesemia, the voluntary donor, by donating the stem call, save the life, bring smile back to the family.
The awareness programme on HLA profile & voluntary stem cell donation was conducted by Mr. B. Anant, Coordinator of DATRI with help of team of doctors from BSF headed Dr. A. C Bhardwajan Commandant (Medical) BSF Shillong through of audio-visual aids & lectures.(SP News)
