Collaboration of KVK and ATMA acts as a bridge between the farmers and scientist

Shillong, Jan 19: To build a close relationship with the farmers of the region, besides educating them on various methods of farming to enrich crops production a one-day farmer’s Scientist Interaction Programme was organised by the ICAR Research Complex, Umiam in collaboration with the Agricultural Technology Management Agency, Nongpoh in Ri Bhoidistrict at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR Research Complex, Umiam on near here on Saturday.

It was learnt that the aimed of having an interaction programme between scientists and farmers was to share innovative by the scientists to the farmers of the region.

Delivering the welcome address Dr. R. Bordoloi, Programme Coordinator, KVK Ri Bhoi informed that collaboration of KVK and ATMA acts as a bridge between the farmers and scientist.

Speaking at the occasion Dr. S. V. Ngachan, Director, ICAR Umiam said that the KVK and A TMA need to act as a mediator between the farmers and scientists for the maximum of both. He stressed on carrying out the Integrated Farming System demonstration at Jirang for the livelihood improvement of the farming community of the block. Altogether, 35 farmers from all the 3 blocks of Ri Bhoi participated in the programme. The farmers were also taken to various farms of ICAR to have first hand information on different farming systems.

Also present at the programme includes, Dr. A. K. Singha, Senior Scientist, Zonal Project Directorate Zone-III, Dr. A. K. Tripathi, Nodal Officer of KVKs, Mr. F. M. Kharsyntiew, Project Director, ATMA, Ri Bhoi and all the Scientists of ICAR Umiam along with the farmers.
