Fierce gun battle with the outlawed GNLA and the police in Garo Hills

Shillong, Feb 6: The police department in Garo Hills have intensified their combing operations against militants to prevent any untoward incident to take place during the preparation of the coming legislative assembly polls slated for February 23.

After series of encounter between the police commandos and the militant groups within a week as well as the attack of militants at the Williamnagar jail that claimed the lives of two police personnel, the police department have remain alert and get themselves prepared to to counter militant attacks.

Even after the Williamnagar jail attack, fresh attacks were encountered by a group of special SWAT and COBRA commandos onWednesday morning where they got engaged in a fierce gun battle with the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) cadres at Bolchugre village in Songsak

The gunfight erupted and lasted for few minutes took place after the sentry of the GNLA spotted and fired upon the special squad of the SWAT and COBRA commandos approaching towards the village. The rebels however managed to flee taking advantage of the thick forest.

It was also learnt that eight cadres of the same group were engaged in a gunfight two days earlier with the police commandos and had escaped taking cover of the thick forest.

Meanwhile, the district administration of East Garo hills has intensified patrolling to thwart any attempts to disrupt peace by any militant groups.(SP News)
