Shillong, 29 April: An impressive Investiture Ceremony was held at Raj Bhawan, Shillong, Meghalaya on 29 Apr 2016 to confer Governor’s Gold and Silver Medals to personnel of Assam Rifles in recognition to their meritorious service and acts of bravery in counter terrorist operations.
The ceremony, which was witnessed by number of civil and military dignitaries, was presided over by Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Shri V Shanmuganathan, during which the Hon’ble Governor conferred the awards to 15 selected personnel of the Force.
The Governor’s Gold & Silver Medal was instituted in the year 1957 and are awarded as a recognition for acts of gallantry and meritorious service by the soldiers of Assam Rifles in the North Eastern states and is highly respected in the Force. The Hon’ble Governor, during his address, praised the yeoman service and dedication to duty shown by the Assam Rifles while operating in the rugged and inhospitable terrain conditions of the North East.
He also paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices made by the gallant soldiers of Assam Rifles and exhorted them to continue the excellent work being done. The ceremony concluded with the award winners and attendees being invited for tea at the Raj Bhawan wherein the Hon’ble Governor interacted with one and all present.
