Shillong, April 23: The people of Mawrangkang willage and its surrounding alleged that Mr T Nongsiej is the menshohnoh or thlen worshiper, the mob attack his house on Monday night near Pongkung in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya for allegedly practising witchcraft or Ri Thlen in khasi belief.
Thousands of people from the Sawsymper area marched to the house of mr T Nongsiej at around 9.30 PM on 22th of this month at night the mob attacked and burn the house of Nongsiej where the house completely destroy the mob attack continued and the police has to fire in the air to disperse the mob from the area.
In Meghalaya, superstition about witchcraft or Ri Thlen is deeply rooted in their belief and these is common believes among the khasi and the myth about the Snake Vampire or thlen and its worshippers Menshohnoh is quite common in Khasi hills in particular.
The District administration of the East Khasi Hills District in order to control mob of that area promulgated Section 144 CrPC in and around 2 KM radius, like the village of Domsohpian,Mawryngkang,Dommawria, and Pongkung.(SP News)
