NGO’s in the state opposed the guidelines of the University Grant Commission

Shillong Dec 6: Expressing resentment over the recent decision of the North eastern Hill university to implement the semester systen at the under graduate level, the local organisations which comprises of  the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Federation of the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) said that they prefer the old system of examination.

While expressing concerned over the decision the three prominent NGO’s in the state said that they opposed the guidelines of the University Grant Commission (UGC) for the implementation of the said system.

KSU president while informing reporters here on Thursday said that one of the major reasons is that the Vice Chancellor of NEHU never held a discussion with the teachers and hence they were not able to suggest their points of views nor were they able to air their grievances

Khyriem further mentioned that the meeting of the VC only with the Principal Council is only just an eye-wash as no consensus was being drawn from the whole teaching fraternity.

Accordingly, while showing their opposition of the proposed system FKJGP president Joe Marwein said the major issue is the guideline of UGC whereby henceforth all corrections of answer scripts will be undertaken entirely by the respective colleges.

Besides he said, “We opposed to such a rule as the question of biasness will surely come into play” Marwein said adding that the organisations are of a view that the old method where the University undertook the responsibility of correction of answer scripts should be maintained.

In this regard, the organisations have extended their full support to the Syngkhong Kyntiew Ri (SKR) in their endeavour on this important issue which will affect the students’ community of the state.(SP News)
