NIFT student demonstrate for increase in fee structure

Shillong, March 14: The students studying at National Institute of Fashion Tecnology (NIFT), a college of design management and technology Shillong Campus staged a sit in demonstration at the institute premises to protest against the sudden increase in fee structure levelled by the institute.

The sit in demonstration was to oppose against the new policy implemented by the institute.

Expressing their grievances, the student community of the NIFT, Shillong Centre lamented over the sudden implementation of new policy by the institute in which the fee structure has been increased at a very high price.

Aggrieved students of the 2010 batch studying in the 3rd year informed that the tuition fees which is supposed to be forty thousand per semester for even semester and forty four thousand for odd has now been increased to sixty three thousand rupees.

They also expressed that it is very difficult for their parents to meet the expenses as most of the parents depend on education loans to send their wards for pursuing the course.

Besides, the students also informed that they have tried to contact with the director general Mr Prem Kumar to address their demands however, he seems not interested to communicate with them. Meanwhile, the students also informed that they will continue to stage in their protest until their demands are being met.(SP News)
