Shillong, June 7: The Union Human Resource Minister Dr MM Pallam Raju rued over the presence of fake universities in the country.
Pallam was saying this while interacting with media persons soon after the inaugural function of the golden jubilee celebration of “Teaching Science in Shillong College” here on Friday
While reacting strongly on the presence of dubious universities and institutions in the country Pallam said action will be taken against dubious Universities functioning in the country and sought the co-operation of state governments to help curb the menace.
“We are encouraging action against them and will ensure that action is taken against such dubious universities,” said Raju .
Coming to the context of CMJ University, Pallam informed that the matter will be look into by the HRD Ministry.
Elaborating more he informed that a legislation to check on universities of dubious nature will be put up in the monsoon session of the parliament which he hoped will be made an act.
Admitting that none of the universities of the country are in the top 200 ranking, Raju said that certain mechanism is initiated by the government to turn the universities of reputed genre.
“We are currently working on internal factors so that it will be in tune with global standards,” said Raju adding that the quality of education and faculties is of prime importance.
Earlier in his address to the gathering, Raju observed that in order to propel education forward in the country, linkage between industries and education should be built.
“Mutual interdependence between the two is a vital aspect that needs to develop,” he added.
Stating that in this fast track era, cyber connectivity plays a vital role in learning, progress and growth, he observed that improved and accessible internet connectivity should be made available to students.
Observing that a lot has been done in improving science education in the country, he said that apart from the teaching methods focus should be made on creating an enabling environment for faculties and the students that increases the thirst for knowledge.
Stressing on the need to improve skill development besides education, Raju observed that institutions like ITI, poly tech and community colleges should be strengthen and brought up moreto cater to the local populace.(SP News)
