Shillong, April 1: It has been a matter of serious concern for the state of Meghalaya that crime against women and children is on an alarming rise. This year in East Khasi Hills district six rape cases of minor has been reported so far.
Though being a matrilinial society, crime against women and children still remains unabated.
Superintendent of police MH kharkrang while talking to reporters said that rape cases in the state is very alarming and that the police department is trying all effort to curb the menace from the society.
“Six cases of rape against minor has been reported so far only in east Khasi hills district alone,” Kharkrang said.
Besides, he also said that the alarming rise of crime against children and women such as rape has been a matter of concern to the society as a whole, even as it has also been a matter of great concern to the police department who is trying their level best to curb the menace in the society.
However, Kharkrang said that most of the rape cases mostly happen to those minor coming from low income families.
Elaborating further Kharkrang said that the children were often left on their own and nobody to look after them.
“Small children were being left alone as both the parents had to work and that is why the perpetrators gets a chance to commit the crime against those innocent children,” he said.
However, Kharkrang said that the Police Department has always keep track of such incidents and will try to find out the perpetrators.
Besides, he also said that a message should be send to the perpetrators that the department is keeping such cases as top priority and that if anyone were caught committing such crime they will face the consequences of the law.
“The police department is all out to curb the menace and will not allow any perpetrators scot free,” Kharkrang added.
Meanwhile, Kharkrang said that even the court of law should be stringent against the perpetrators (SP News)
