Society as a whole has a greater responsibility to look after the welfare of a child

Shillong, April 29:The  State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Shillong in collaboration with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, New Delhi organized a District Level  Awareness Programme  on Juvenile Justice Act 2015 & Child Rights on Friday at Trysem Hall, DC Office, Nongstoin.

The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Shri S. Kharlyngdoh graced the function as the Chief Guest in presence of Shri H. M. Shangpliang, Secretary and Director, Social Welfare, Smti. M. Kharkongor, Chairperson, MSCPCR, Shri E. P. Syiem, Syiem of Hima Nongstoin, students, Seng Longkmie of New Nongstoin and Anganwadi workers of West Khasi Hills District.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kharlyngdoh said that the society as a whole has a greater responsibility to look after the welfare of a child but people still has a fear in their minds to approach the authorities and stand up against the atrocities committed against them. He added that the Police Department also has a very important role in the protection of Child rights.

In his address, Shri Shangpliang informed that the awareness programme is to sensitize the public about the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and Child Rights. Crime against women and children are increasing day by day and as such there is an urgent need to protect them, he added.
