The candle-light vigil is to condemned the government

Shillong, Dec 29: Expressing solidarity with the 23 year old rape victim in New Delhi who succumbed to her injury this morning at Singapore hospital as well as to other rape victims in the state and other parts of the country, various NGO’s, members of the civil societies, students, housewives gathered at Don Bosco square for a candle-light vigil on Saturday evening.

Holding banners and placards that reads the grief, frustration of women they voice out their concern demanding stringent law against rapist and molesters.

“It is not just for Delhi but for the sufferings of women countrywide,” opined  a lady doctor attending the gathering.

Many others expressing concern on the increasing crime rate against women country wide highlighting on the recent Williamnagar gang rape of a teenager demanded the government to come up with a strict law.

The candle-light vigil was to show their resentment against the unabated crime against women as well as to condemned the government who remain a mere spectator to such crimes.

Amonst scores of elderly women who gathered at the Don Bosco square this evening one of them said, “She is a martyr because she bravely withstood the savagery and passed into eternity by raising the consciousness of the nation by her relentless struggle to live”.(SP News)
