The demand for Provincialisation of Government Aided schools need to be sorted out with the MC

Shillong, Sept 13: The agitation programmes being resorted to at present by certain organizations is noted with concern by the Directorate of School Education & Literacy and in this context, the Directorate would like to state that it is a known fact that the section of teachers who are involved in these agitations are serving in schools which though Government Aided, are private and managed by the respective Managing Committees. The demand for Provincialisation of these Government Aided schools will need to be sorted out with the respective Sponsoring bodies and Managing Committees ‘first’.

Salaries are also disbursed directly to the respective Managing Committees who are the employers of those teachers covered under the Deficit-Aided and Adhoc-Aided system. Whilst the Department of it Education is sparing no effort in ensuring that all teachers as indicated above receive their salary in time, delays could be caused due to procedural formalities at the level of the District Office and School Managing Committee.

In so far as the status of implementation of the State Education Policy is concerned, though it is a fact that the State Cabinet had approved the same on 19th January, 2009, due to the advent of the RTE Act, 2009, the above policy needs to be revised to incorporate the objectives of the RTE Act. The Department is ready to circulate the draft policy and invite concrete suggestions and inputs from the teaching community. The Government is sincere in its commitment to improve the quality and equity of education in all spheres and is open to any suggestion which will pave the way for long lasting reform.(SP News)
