The Director Genenral of the BSF visit Meghalaya Frontier

Shillong, Feb 05: In his farewell visit to Meghalaya Frontier, Sh. Subhash Joshi, IPS, DG BSF   visited at SHQ BSF Tura campus and Umpling, Shillong on 04th and 5th Feb’ 2014, he inaugurated the new administrative block of Sector Headquarters Tura constructed at Dobasipara.

On taking over  the Command of this elite force in Dec 2012, Sh. Subhash Joshi, IPS, DG BSF emphasised on maintaining round the clock vigil on the international border to maintain its sanctity and making good relation with the main stake holder of border management i.e. border population. During his tenure as DG, BSF achieved remarkable achievements not only on international borders but in anti naxal operations in Chattishgarh and Odisha as well.  The endless efforts made by BSF has again made Govt to opt for its’ deployment in the Naxal hit areas. He inaugurated the renovated War Memorial at BOP Kilapara(Dalu) distt West Garo Hills on 25th May 2013 to remember the BSF heroes of the 1971 Indo-Pak War.

The 2013  was declared the as “Year of Jawans” which was taken as pride by the BSF jawans. Emphasis was laid on improving the living conditions of the jawans who live in adverse inhospitable conditions while guarding the border. He has ensured to provide all basic amenities in the Border out posts. Recently, 18 Jawan Barrack, 16 Cook Houses, 14 Deep Tubewell and 3 Toilet Blocks have been sanctioned to be constructed in Meghalaya Ftr. Under the aegis of BSF Wives Welfare Association, two vocational Education Training program were organised at Tura and Shillong in which more than 100 women, children were benefitted and got jobs.

Ensuring welfare of the troops and their families, efforts have been made to establish Hqrs of BSF Units in each  state so that personnel of that state may get chance to serve there and their wards can also get good schooling. BSF Relief fund has been created which have recently did wonderful job by providing financial help to the areas most affected during the natural calamity in Uttrakhand state. BSF officers and men of Meghalaya Ftr bid farewell to their DG  who is retiring from service on 28th Feb 2014.(SP News)
