The money was seized by the district election flying from a Congress worker V Bansal

Shillong, Feb 19: In what can be termed as the use of money power, it seems the Congress party has everything to prove about this as a huge sum of money amounted to rupees four lakh fifty thousand cash from a Congress worker at Jakrem, 8kms from the district headquarter Mawkyrwat today.

The money was seized by the district election flying from a Congress worker V Bansal who had come all the way from Delhi.

Confirming the seizure, South West Khasi hills district Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) Aldous Mawlong informed that Bansal revealed that the money was meant to meet the expenditure for Rahul Gandhi’s election rally at Mawkyrwat to be held on Wednesday

However, Mawlong said the election department seized Rs 4 lakh and returned the remaining fifty thousand. This was done so because as per the election guidelines, only fifty thousand is allowed to be spent for such rally.

Besides it was also informed that Mawlong also directed Bansal to submit all the receipts to justify that the fifty thousand rupees have been spend to meet the rally expenditure.

It may be mentioned that election authorities in the State have prohibited against carrying of cash of more than Rs 50,000 by any person. The move is being done to prevent use of money power during election.

Meanwhile, election flying squads in the state have seized over Rs 43 lakh cash from different parts of the state in just a week. On Sunday night, Rs 13 lakh was seized from West Khasi Hills while on Saturday Rs 30 lakh was seized from two vehicles in Jaintia Hills district.(SP News)
