Union Minister will look into issues to govt clearance restoration of BSNL Broadband in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jan 23: The Union Minister, for Road Transport and Highways, Shri. Oscar Fernandes, MP, Union Minister for Road Transport an Highways, Govt. of India, stated that his Ministry is closely monitoring the progress of critical Highway Construction, and will look into issues related to  providing clearances to BSNL, so that they can lay their fiber optic cables along the NHAI Highways.

This assurance was stated when John F Kharshiing, Co-Chairman, Meghalaya State Planning Board, MSPB, Chairman, Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, met briefly with the Union Minister, in Guwahati, today 22 Jan 2014, and urged for the Union Minister’s, urgent  intervention due to the weak broadband connectivity for rural subscribers especially in most of the 39 C&RD Block offices of Meghalaya caused  due to the technicalities, and delay in permissions  for right of way.

In laying of new fiber optic cables, by BSNL  who is presently temporarily using Power Grid Transmission Towers to link vital North East. John Kharshiing informed the Union Minister, that  bsnl lines in most areas have snapped due to un-coordinated construction of the new NHAI Highways Shillong to Guwahati and Shillong to Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura and requested his urgent intervention with these two authorities.
